A lot of phenomenal music was released in 2024. Caley Conway’s Partner is some of the best. The problem with being an insanely talented singer/songwriter with varied influences and exquisite taste is that music writers can’t pigeonhole your work into any easily defined categories.
There’s a little bit of something for everyone on this release: opportunities for the stellar cast of musicians to stretch out, odd time signatures, skillful guitar-work ranging from crunchy to delicate, lyrics that are beautiful yet relatable, and a collection of killer music videos you should definitely look up on Youtube.
This album has its own vibe. Not many days have gone by since its release that have not required at least one listen. And with repeated listens, the deceptively simple-sounding arrangements reveal little complex details that might have been missed on earlier listening sessions. If Brat Girl Summer wasn’t your thing (like me), then this album might be for you. And if Caley and her band come to your town, you would be advised to attend. And bring your Partner.
